The crowd’s favorite – ‘Jin Hiong Mai’ is a fried vermicelli noodle dish with gravy, while ‘Chao Kap Dai’ is a fried noodle with all the ingredients available at their stall such as pork slices, prawns and fish cakes. Both are equally delicious in their own right.

Beautifully designed for a relaxing yet stylish ambience. An extensive collection of books, with topics ranging from film and theatre to art and travel, is on hand for contemplative pleasure. A selection of fine wines, Cognac, Armagnac, cocktails served alongside a tantalizing dinner from the Menu Du Jour make for a perfect evening. A choice of premium cigars are available in The Smoke Room.

The tart and refreshing sorbet is meant to cleanse your palate to prepare you for the next dessert, which is traditional churros with chocolate sauce. Flaky on the outside and light and airy when you bite into it, the churros are exactly how I like them to be.

Service wise, I thought it was great and I approve the fact they hire local aunties to work in the restaurant. They were some of the most efficient, friendly and courteous staff we have ever encountered. With that said, I feel the biggest weakness of Oppa Steamboat Buffet lies in their soups. We had the chicken herbal and tomyum soup and both of them tasted kind of weird. Not terrible, just don’t taste expected. Maybe it’s their own recipe or something.

The rich and aromatic curry gravy is prepared exactly the same way by the proprietor, then transported to this outlet. It’s not as hot as it looks and you can definitely taste the spices being used.

Yellow and warm lightings created a cosy ambient in the restaurant. Every night, starting from 10.30pm onwards, there will be a live band performing in the restaurant.

The patty is as thick as the bun so every bite you take feels gratifyingly meaty. Besides extra flavor, the fried onion ring and smoked turkey bacon add a crunch to the juicy burger.

Obviously, Kim Lian Kee has passed its prime and those days when they were the “to go to” restaurant for Hokkien Mee are long gone. Now, Kim Lian Kee is nothing more than a tourist trap filled with foreign workers and poor souls who don’t know how a decent Hokkien Mee should taste like. No amount of promotion from Hugo Leong can save them from the embarrassment that they are today.

If you have one and only one shot at this dessert in Ipoh, I highly recommend Fei Ma‘s stall in Kampung Simee. It’s quite different compared to those sold by the stalls at the town’s famous ‘tong sui kai’.

I like that they are sticking to the fundamentals by serving affordable, unpretentious and filling food. At night, Tryst buzzes with customers, many of them shisha lovers who come to hang out and relax till late.

Besides being significantly larger and meatier than the white prawns, the tiger prawns also tasted sweeter with a firmer bite. I’d say the extra RM5 is worth paying for.
