relishbyrae reviewed Hot Shots Coffee & Tea @ Solaris Dutamas

Superb
Walking in the café, there are many espresso makers and grinder lining up on my right side. And there is an island in front of us that we can sit on, but we chose the little lounge sofa on the left side that looks much more comfortable. We were lucky to get the chance to explore the espresso makers, beans and tools in the café a little since there was barely any customer around. If you are looking for an espresso maker or grinder for your home or office, you may want to drop by HotShots as they carry several good one here. The hot fluffy raisin scone was good! It is served with premium jam, strawberries and thickened cream. I like the cranberries that are sprinkled on the plate. The scone was warm and soft, it smelled good, too. I have yet to try much from the menu, but I must say the Belgian waffles is really good and has become one of the reasons I will re-visit this café. It comes with either fresh strawberries or sweet pitted cherries. The warm Belgian chocolate is very rich, slightly bitter in a good way and it is definitely complement well with the waffles.

relishbyrae reviewed Absolute Viet @ Setiawalk

Superb
Absolute Viet is another great place to fix your craving for Vietnamese food and the best thing about this Vietnamese restaurant is you pay a little for a pleasant atmosphere and good food. Isn’t that great? They have a very simple and comfortable setting for non-smoker in the restaurant, while the smokers get to enjoy their meal and the famous Vietnamese coffee overlooking the water feature in front of the restaurant. A big surprise I found in Absolute Viet when I see they serve tomato noodle soup! Frankly, that is the main reason we give it a try the first time we walked into this restaurant. That reminds me of my Vietnamese friend making me an authentic Vietnamese noodles with plenty of crab meat in tomato soup while I was visiting her in the United States, and it is very difficult to find a Vietnamese restaurant serving this since I return. At the price of only RM 9.90, I find it has similar taste of what I called the original, it is a little sour and mild in spiciness. I’m sure the taste would be further enhanced if they could replace the chicken with seafood (and that for sure will change the price as well); still it’s a very good and appetizing noodle soup, also my all-time favourite. It is always satisfying dining at Absolute Viet for the mouth-watering side dishes and scrumptious main course at very affordable price. A simple meal with 2 healthy main course and drinks would probably be around RM 30 or less, I call that an affordable damage especially when we are offered such comfortable, air-conditioned setting with music and pleasant service. This was the third visit to Absolute Viet and I know I am happy to be their regular customer.

relishbyrae reviewed Tai Lei Loi Kei Pork Chop Bun @ Ioi Boulevard

Exceptional
Tai Lei Loi Kei is among the famous cafés in Macau serving the popular pork chop bun. *drooling* You have to order, pay and pick up your order at the counter. I have been there a few times and it does appear to me a family café that serves a limited but good enough selection for both adults and kids. There are several set meals available, like the signature pork chop bun, polo pork chop bun, noodles with pork chop or chicken wings, supreme pork chop rice, curry fish ball or chicken wings, that all comes with a drink at your choice of either coffee or milk tea. And you get to top up RM 3.50 for the sawdust cake aka serradura with any order of value set meal. You also get to add on cheese, ham, luncheon meat, chicken wing or fish ball for the different set meals you would order. When I was in Macau and Hong Kong, I was addicted to the polo bun so much so that I always go for polo pork chop bun in Tai Lei Loi Kei. Of course, it tastes more delicious if taken alone, but not a bad combination if you have it with the pork chop. I have yet to try the signature pork chop bun in Malaysia, but the one I had in Macau is quite good. It’s juicy, not heavily seasoned yet smelled and tasted good. The milk tea tastes just heaven. I doubt they use condensed milk same like what we normally have in Malaysia, and obviously it is one you shouldn’t missed. It tastes smooth, slightly milky but rich in flavour that goes so well with the tea. You can just tell the difference between their milk tea and the teh tarik with your eyes shut.

relishbyrae reviewed Fuzion @ Sunway Resort Hotel

Bad
Celebration is meant to be a happy occasion, but the one that we had last Thursday at Fuzion Restaurant, Sunway Hotel was dreadful. It was a standard international buffet, with cooked seafood served at the bar, salad, appetizers, assorted meat like lamb, beef, venison, chicken, quil and prawn cooked in local and western style, limited selection of Chinese dim sum and not forgetting, the desserts. The selection pretty much covered everyone’s preference. 20 of us went for a celebration lunch but turned out 7 of us got severe food poisoning! This is the worst food poisoning experience I’ve ever had in my entire life, so far. It is my duty to share with you about this terrible dining experience I had at Fuzion Restaurant, Sunway Hotel. And now, whether to dine at this restaurant or not, the choice is in your hand.

relishbyrae reviewed Long Grilled Fish Seafood Restaurant @ Jalan Kelab Jinjang Utara

Superb
Long Grilled Fish Seafood Restaurant is the name to look for, but it is actually an open-air food stall operating on the roadside a.k.a. dai pai dong in Cantonese. They are quite famous for seafood especially crabs, but we skipped that as we wanted something else. The creamy butter Japanese snail came first; the snail was crunchy, the flavourful white cream immediately enriched my taste buds and satisfied my belly. The Nyonya squid was sweet, sour and spicy, the pineapple-based sauce was very refreshing. The signature clam that is cooked with Chinese wine and garlic, similar to siong tong lala (Cantonese) or clam in broth that is served in most Chinese restaurant. I must say the clam was cooked just nice, the Chinese wine, garlic and chillies are good complement. The total damage was about RM 260, not too bad huh? However, considering dining in a hawker stall, the damage is slightly higher than the others and the average can go more than RM 40 per pax. If you were tempted to order the king prawn, it could cost you about RM 30 per piece. Having said that, the food is actually worth every penny in my humble opinion, but you just have to bear with the not so fantastic ambience, particularly you might get your feet soak wet sitting outside under the tent if it rains. If you are a first timer, go on an empty stomach, let the lady boss recommends you the selection of food that will surely enrich your taste buds. You may also try some of the dishes we've just ordered, they are good.

relishbyrae reviewed Nosh @ Bangsar

Superb
Here's the afternoon tea set for two at RM 52. It came with a 3-tier stand filled with green tea cakes, banana cakes, chocolate pastries, freshly baked scones, sandwiches and canapé, served with coffee or tea at your preference. I love all the sweet treats so much, particularly the green tea and banana cakes. They are not too sweet, flavourful and just simply delicious! The restaurant takes up the space of an intermediate shop lot and therefore the seating is limited. We were lucky it was not noisy when we visited the coffee shop. The staff were well-trained and the service was attentive. I will definitely re-visit Nosh for the afternoon tea set.

relishbyrae reviewed Uncle Jang Korean Restaurant @ Bandar Puteri

Exceptional
The sliced chicken was tender, the cabbage was cooked to slightly softer and the rice cake was just so yummy. And we were glad we ordered the udon as the 2 portion of Dak Galbi seem slightly small for a couple. So, if you were to go in a group of men, you might want to order slightly more depending on your appetite. You do feel like having fried kuey tiao at some point but the secret recipe of the sauce has made the taste somewhat more delicious. It does not taste even close to Kimchi as it is not sour, but something you should really give it a try.

relishbyrae reviewed You Seng Hakka Yong Tau Fu @ Bandar Puteri

Superb
Well, if you are a YTF fans, like us in Relish by Rae, there is an air-conditioned restaurant serving good YTF plus chee cheung fun (flat rice noodles in cantonese) in Bandar Puteri Puchong. The portion and soup base is very much similar to the Batu 14 YTF, but their chee cheung fun and the taste of other home cook food are something I would crave for. They have assorted raw vegetables and bean curd on a long table for your pick. And this is the chee cheung fun I have been talking about. The soft and thin flat rice noodles is topped with sesame abd specially made sauce that makes it so delicious. The best part of the specially made sauce is the shrimp paste that instantly fills your mouth with fragrant and bright taste of shrimp. Heaven! It could be better if they could serve the noodles slightly warmer, but I still like it even it's a little cold.

relishbyrae reviewed Sinful-Liciouz @ Putra Heights

Superb
If you have been saying Secret Recipe serves the best cakes, it could be you have yet to find a finer bakery. Being one of my favourites, Sinful-Liciouz uses the finest quality of ingredients in the baking and hence offers moist and fine textural cakes, flavourful and aromatic cookies and pastry. They are famous for the moist chocolate cakes. Moreover, they have been baking for the festive seasons like Chinese New Year, Christmas and Valentine’s Day. I have tried ordering cookies from them last year for Chinese New Year and the cookies were just yummy! Almond biscotti, chocolate chips with walnut and cranberry butter cookies are among the best I have tried. These cookies are just rich in every ingredient that is used at the right amount. Your taste bud will definitely be able to judge if RM20 a canister is worth every cent you pay. It is really satisfying!

relishbyrae reviewed Delicious Cafe @ 1 Utama (One Utama) Shopping Centre

Bad
Everything seemed perfect, the view, the ambience… except the slow service. It was an immediate disappointment when the latte was served. I was expecting the milk was steamed at the right temperature, but was found the latte was way too hot and burnt my tongue. The aroma was so weak until I thought I was drinking steaming hot coffee-flavoured milk. It didn’t taste much like an illy to me and I was a little down as I was hoping a “boost”. It was another disappointment when the pasta was served. I was expected the white cream sauce like the carbonara, somehow it tasted sour. Well, that was not too bad, it was just out of my expectation. The bad thing about the pasta was the smoked salmon. I was expected generous portion of slightly thicker smoked salmon, but they were merely 3 thin pieces of smoked salmon topped with a little caviar. On the bright side, they were generous enough to make sure the angelhair was in sufficient portion. Frankly, it was overpriced at RM 29.90. My hubby had nasi kerabu with ayam percik served with raw ulam, salted egg and keropok, a typical local dish at RM 24.90 and he complained about the not so nasi kerabu and cold tasteless chicken.

relishbyrae reviewed Foo Hing Dim Sum 富兴点心 @ Bandar Puteri

Superb
There are several things I like about Foo Hing, a broad selection of food with most of them are average good, fast service, clean environment and not too crowded and stuffy setting. If you prefer an air-conditioned restaurant, this might not appear to be your choice when you see it, but believe me, the restaurant has good ventilation and air coolers that you won't feel hot at all. So why not give it a chance? Typically in a dim sum restaurant, you would order prawn dumpling, "Siew Mai" and Chee Cheung Fun aka steam rice noodles with either prawn or BBQ pork, but in Foo Hing, I would recommend you their dumpling with Bamboo pith, braised phoenix claws aka chicken feet, fried bacon roll, yam croquette and Portuguese tart.

relishbyrae reviewed STADT German Cuisine & Bistro @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

Superb
I have to say the pork knuckle is good. The skin is crispy, yet the meat is juicy and tender on the inside, not overdone. The pork chop is not bad, either, and it is reasonably priced at about RM 22.90. You might want to give these a try if you haven’t. The lamb boneless meat is tender, but it could be better if it was braised slightly longer. It still tastes a little gamey but I don’t mind at all as I like it.

relishbyrae reviewed Chilla Cup @ SetiaWalk

Superb
They serve good selection of food like the freshly baked signatures pretzels, thick toasts and tortilla, pasta, western and Asian delights, soup and salads, sandwiches and burgers. They also serve coffee, tea and juice. The food costs from RM 5 to RM 20. Al-fungi tortilla, Hawaiian tortilla and Nasi Goreng Kampung with Honey Paprika Chicken were the main course we ordered. At the price of RM 9.90, the nasi goreng kampong set comes with a piece of honey paprika chicken and a drink, The nasi goreng is tasty! The Al-fungi tortilla set and the ala-carte Hawaiian tortilla was about RM 13 – RM 15. Feeling expensive? Not at all! After trying the first bite, it was totally value for money! The tortilla was cheesy, crispy and full of toppings. Don't forget to always seal your meal with a nice cup of coffee. They do brew good coffee, so don’t forget to try it out when you are there. Love coffee, love hot food, love Chilla Cup!
