If you frequent Kepong, you would notice that there are many bak kut teh restaurants with the same Chinese name – 兴记. This is not a coincidence because they are opened by the disciples of the same master who taught them the recipe. That also explains why their bak kut teh and supplementary dishes are so similar to each other.
Recently we went back to the Heng Kee at Bandar Menjalara and were disappointed to learn that their bak kut teh had taken a dive. I wouldn’t say it was bad, but certainly not as nice as we remembered. If you are keen to know how 兴记’s bak kut teh is supposed to taste like, check out Heng Kee F.T. Bak Kut Teh at Kepong Commercial Park.
